Decriminalize, Not Legalize – Joe Biden
As the 2020 presidential election gets closer and closer, more candidates are voicing their stance on very controversial topics. Former US Vice President Joe Biden has come out to explain his plans for marijuana and what he thinks the US should do.
Biden was in the Senate from 1973 to 2009 while representing Delaware, he has had a very strong stance on the war on drugs. He has been part of bills that have imposed harsh mandatory minimums for drug possession, helped pass dozens of new death penalties, and authorized civil asset forfeiture.
“Nobody should be in jail for smoking marijuana,”
– Biden told supporters in New Hampshire
Joe Biden’s history shows his strong stance on drugs and incarceration so his statement was somewhat unexpected. He also proposed automatically expunging criminal records for marijuana possession, allowing prior offenders to be expunged without having to hire a lawyer and file a petition.
Marijuana is going to be a very popular topic in the 2020 election, do you see legislation moving in a positive direction in the next few years if a president is elected who does not support legalization?
